Turkey Burgers

It's been a while since I made homemade burgers, so I decided to cook some up for dinner. I work with ground turkey instead of beef to keep dinner lean and usually just mix together the ground meat, bread crumbs, an egg and a random seasoning or two.  This time I found a basic turkey burgers recipe to work with to try some new flavor and just changed the seasonings around and added a little bit of Worcestershire sauce.

I mixed together turkey, bread crumbs, onion, egg whites, salt, paprika, garlic, Worcestershire, pepper and oregano in large bowl.

I separated the mixture into patties and started cooking 4 in a cast iron skillet.  I added some olive oil because I know the meat is lean and did not want them to burn. The recipe says to only flip the patties once, so I let them cook for about 3 minutes before flipping them. I did end up flipped them few times to make sure I cooked them all the way through.

They were sticking to the cast iron skillet quite a bit, so I cooked the rest of the patties in a nonstick skillet. I ended up with 7 patties total and the recipe was for 8, so they were pretty hefty burgers.

I served the finished turkey burgers with Baked Spicy Potato Wedges.

Excellent! I loved the onion and found the seasoning to be really tasty. For next time, I'm definitely thinking of going for a spicier version with some crushed red pepper and maybe some chili powder, but I'm glad to now have a great go-to turkey burger recipe to work off of in the future.

Turkey Burgers Recipe

2 pounds ground turkey
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1/4 cup diced onion
2 egg whites, slightly beaten
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon paprika
2 teaspoons minced garlic
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons dried oregano

Mix together turkey, bread crumbs, onion, egg whites, salt, paprika, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, pepper and oregano in large bowl until well combined. Separate into 7-8 hamburger parties. Heat 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil a large skillet to medium high heat and cook 3-4 patties at a time 5-7 minutes on each side.
