Thai Turkey and Noodles

Browsing the net and checking out recipes is one of my favorite ways to track down something new to make.  I had recently spotted some sauce recipes to make spicy Thai-inspired dishes.  I have to admit, this is my first experience with Thai style food. Despite my lack of experience in the field of Thai cooking (and eating), I opted to go for it.

I found a Spicy Thai and Ground Turkey recipe and decided it was the one.  Now, the recipe did call for some onion, carrots, cilantro, and a bit of something I had never heard of called fish sauce, none of which I had on hand, so I added my own bits to it and gave it a shot. I decided to double up on the sauce so that I could toss some pasta in there with it and coat the noodles, and of course I did my standard swapping from white sugar to brown (do I even need to mention that anymore?).

I started out by browning the ground turkey in a nonstick skillet with some minced garlic, then tossed in some ground ginger, chili powder, cayenne pepper, white pepper, and some of the sriracha sauce.  While this was cooking, I began boiling the spaghetti.

In a small bowl I made the Thai-style sauce by combining soy sauce, brown sugar, water, lime juice, vegetable oil, the remaining sriracha sauce and crushed red pepper and mixing well.

Next, I poured the sauce in with the ground turkey and kept the heat on medium to let it simmer.  It started to thicken, and after about 4 minutes I turned off the heat.

To finish the dish, I added in the spaghetti and tossed the mixture around to coat it.  It turned out to be the perfect amount of sauce without being runny.

Well, well, well...It looks like there is another favorite to keep in rotation here!  The sauce was quite sweet and had an excellent flavor to it, and the turkey was seasoned perfectly.  Of course using a whole box of pasta meant there was a plethora of leftovers, and I was delighted to have it for lunch the next day at work.  Next time around I will absolutely have to add the carrots and other veggies, but I can't make a single complaint on how it turned out without them.  Thumbs up on another new dish!
