Pan-seared Salmon with Honey Soy Sauce

Last time I was out shopping, I picked up a bag of salmon to try some more recipes.  After Marinated Salmon and Lemon Dijon Salmon both turned out amazing, I was excited to try an all-new recipe with the fillets.  Both of those recipes were oven-baked, so I wanted to try a recipe on the stove-top this time around.

I got to looking at recipes and found a pan-fried salmon post that sounded delightful.  I decided to swap a few ingredients around and as always, add some brown sugar.

First, I seasoned both sides of the salmon with salt, pepper, and a bit of paprika, then seared the fillets in some olive oil in the cast iron skillet.  It took about 5 minutes on each side to get the fish cooked throughout.

For the sauce, I melted the butter and mixed in the minced garlic.  I let the garlic cook for 2-3 minutes.

I mixed in soy sauce, honey, lemon juice, crushed red pepper and brown sugar and continued cooking it for about 3 more minutes.

I poured the sauce over the salmon and dinner was ready to go!

Salmon has yet to disappoint me, and this recipe was another one for the record books.  The sauce was sweet, but had a tangy kick and was flat-out delicious. I served some mashed potatoes on the side and ended up mixing some of the sauce in with them as well.

Pan-seared Salmon with Honey Soy Sauce

2 salmon fillets
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
2 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons minced garlic
4 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 teaspoon brown sugar

Rinse salmon fillets and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and paprika.  Pour olive oil over and massage into fillets.  Cook in a cast iron skillet for about 5 minutes on each side, until cooked throughout. To make the sauce, melt butter in a small saucepan and add garlic. Cook for 2-3 minutes over medium heat. Add in soy sauce, honey, lemon juice, crushed red pepper and brown sugar and continued cooking it for about 3 more minutes.  Pour sauce over the salmon and serve.
